What is Lorem Ipsum?
Lorem Ipsum is a placeholder text commonly used in the printing and typesetting industry. It has been the industry’s standard dummy text since the 1500s, when an unknown printer scrambled a type specimen book to make a typeface. The text is derived from sections of “De Finibus Bonorum et Malorum,” a 1st-century BC Latin text by Cicero. It is often used to demonstrate the visual form of a document without relying on meaningful content. Designers and typesetters use it to focus on layout and design elements.
Why do we use it?
It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).
Where does it come from?
Lorem Ipsum originates from a piece of classical Latin literature written in 45 BC. It comes from a book titled *”De Finibus Bonorum et Malorum”* (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Roman philosopher Cicero. The text was randomly extracted from sections of this work. Its modern use began in the 1500s when a printer used it to create a type specimen book. Over time, it became popular in the printing and typesetting industry as placeholder text.
